Lodge History

In 1990 Robert Anderson changed his career from being an Alaska State Trooper to a Fishing Lodge owner. He lived just up the road from Fireweed, which at the time was a bed and breakfast that catered to the logging industry. It was run down and needed much attention but Bob had a vision and was ready for a change. He started simple, purchased one boat and guided it himself. He hired a chef, one you might even know, Donny Wharton - he's still providing us with outstanding dinners more than 30 years later!

Bob's children helped him run it, Shawna Lynn worked in the dining room and did house keeping until she graduated from college. Jody Christine, worked as a fish cutter and later helped expand Fireweeds offerings by starting the on site smoker and processing facility in 2006. The smoker is still run today by a local business, Wildfish.

Bob's youngest child, Josh was only 2 years old when he purchased Fireweed Lodge and he has been here every summer since. Josh started as a fish cutter next to his sister Jody when he was 12 and started guiding full-time when he was 23.

Bob and his sweetheart wife, Jeanne Marie, built Fireweed lodge into what it is today, a luxury vacation that feels like home. What started as one boat operation has grown to eleven, every addition made to this property was well articulated for the comfort and enjoyment of our guests. Bob's focus has always been two things, fishing and family. Which is why it was important to him that Fireweed Lodge continue its legacy; in 2023 Bob and Jeanne sold Fireweed Lodge to his son and daughter in-law, Josh & Chace Anderson. Josh and Chace married in 2013 and had been managing the lodge for Bob and Jeanne since then. Josh and Chace have two young boys (too young to work just yet!) Jax & Luke Anderson.
